NAS academia Dai Hongjie led leading team settled in Qingdao

????The Qingdao West Coast New Zone signed Alu Ion Battery R&D Center Joint Development Agreement with Shandong University of Science and Technology and Qingdao Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology on the 17th of March. On that day Shandong University of Science and Technology revealed its alu ion battery R&D center. The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) academic Dai Hongjie led the alu ion power and storage battery innovation team and settled Qingdao west coast new zone as the 1st leading talent team attracted by Qingdao. They will focus on building alu ion battery large-scale manufacturing and application R&D center that gathers world-class experts to form an academic highland in the industry.

????The innovation team led by Dai was selected as one of 1st batch of 2 leading talent teams on early January. This is the 1st time Qingdao tried to attract innovation team instead of individuals. In order to attract them, Qingdao municipal and district financial departments spent CNY 100 million on subsidies. As the based unit, Shandong University of science and technology will give full support in talent attracting, research kick-off, lab building and device purchase to the team to boost the team building and project development.

????After the alu ion battery R&D center launched, Dai’s team will introduce 4-5 core members from world leading universities, world-class research institutes, and famous enterprises. It plans to build a 30-people team in 1-3 years. The team will focus on developing, producing, and the promotion of high-performance alu ion power and battery, which is expected to replace high-cost li-ion battery and seriously polluted led acid battery and will be widely applied in the areas of distributed storage, electricity grid energy storage, and electricity transportation tools.

????Dai is now the emeritus professor of the J.G. Jackson & C.J. Wood of Chemistry department of MIT. He was elected as NAS academia in 2016. His career life is mainly about developing and synergy and physics feature research of C nano materials, nano electrionic part development, and nano biomedicine. He is the leading figure in international carbon nano materials research field.

????Dai said, the center is expected to achieve large-scale production of alu ion battery, thus boost Qingdao into birth place and industrial base of the industry, the development of production of alu-ion battery of the new zone and Qingdao will be leading in the industry.
